☀️ Rezolv Energy's Dama Solar park receives final authorization in Romania

Powering over 280,000 households, Europe's upcoming largest solar park has cleared its final regulatory hurdle. Rezolv Energy received authorization from Romania's energy regulator to build Dama Solar, a massive photovoltaic plant spanning over 1,000 hectares in Arad.

The facility will surpass Germany's 650-megawatt Witznitz solar park to become the largest in the European Union. Construction will include an 82-hectare nature reserve alongside the solar panels.

Backed by 561 million euros in financing from a group led by the European Investment Bank, commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028.

Part of the low-quality agricultural land will return to pasture, with sheep managing the vegetation.

Tesla will buy power from a massive new Arizona solar plant

A sprawling 2,000-acre solar farm in the desert will soon power major operations after breaking ground on October 6. ContourGlobal is building the 509-megawatt facility in Mohave County, Arizona, under an agreement to send 90 percent of its electricity output directly to Tesla.

The facility will combine over 760,000 solar panels with more than 300 battery storage containers using lithium iron phosphate batteries. These batteries can store about 1.4 gigawatt-hours of energy and deliver full power for four hours. Once operations begin in 2028, the site will produce more than 1.1 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually.

That yearly output equals the electricity demand of up to 120,000 average homes. The project also brings about 400 local construction jobs to the area along with a new access road connecting to a historic stretch of Route 66.

The facility connects directly to the transmission network of the Western Area Power Administration.

BYD builds its 150,000th electric commercial vehicle

On October 10, 2026, BYD assembled its 150,000th commercial new energy vehicle at its truck plant in Huai'an, Jiangsu province. The milestone vehicle is an 800-horsepower Q3 electric semi built for heavy hauling. 🚀

If you follow how logistics are changing, you will notice this market is growing rapidly. In September alone, the company sold 6,848 electric trucks, showing a 113% increase from the previous year.

The truck packs a massive battery and a dual-motor system capable of pulling 108,000 pounds. When you need to get back on the road quickly, dual-gun fast charging lets you go from 20% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes.

🪵 Neanderthal wooden tools found preserved in stone in Spain

Spanish archaeologists at Abric Romaní have cataloged 597 wooden remains from Neanderthal living areas dating from 62,000 to 40,000 years ago.

You might picture early humans relying only on stone, but calcium-rich spring water coated fallen wood and tools in a limestone crust, creating hollow molds that preserved their shapes as the wood rotted away over millennia.

Among the finds are spears, bark trays, and a mysterious wooden club, showing you that woodworking was a routine part of daily life rather than a rare exception.

Tesla renames its driver-assistance package in Europe

On October 9, 2026, Tesla changed the name of its driver-assistance software to Tesla Assisted Driving across Europe following pressure from regulators. The change comes after officials called the old name misleading because the software still requires you to keep your hands on the wheel.

Germany's Transport Ministry pushed for the change, arguing that the system only helps with steering, braking, and accelerating rather than driving completely on its own. In exchange, Berlin agreed to support the company in getting fast-tracked approval across the European Union.

Back in the United States, the software is still sold under its original name as a $99 per month subscription, which reached 1.48 million active users earlier this year.

☀️ PowerChina connects a 1 GW hybrid solar plant to the grid

On Oct. 1, PowerChina switched on a massive 1 GW hybrid solar facility in Gonghe county, Qinghai province, bringing clean energy straight to the power grid.

The site brings together a 900 MW solar panel field and a 100 MW solar thermal tower. Instead of just sending electricity away immediately, it uses 10,310 moving mirrors to heat molten salt, storing extra sun power like a giant thermal battery.

That stored heat lets the plant keep running a turbine for up to eight hours after dark. When you turn on your appliances at night, part of that electricity can come from the sun stored earlier in the day, helping keep power steady when the sun goes down.

Language model drives a real car through a drive-thru

Three engineers at Axiom hooked OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra—a model built for text and code—to the steering and cameras of a 2024 Toyota Corolla, letting the AI navigate a California drive-thru and complete a cone course in 5 minutes and 22 seconds. 🚗

You might expect only specialized software to drive, but the team wanted to test how well text models handle the physical world. The AI made decisions in real time using ongoing chat commands while a human kept a foot over the brake. 🤖

In a closed parking lot test against other systems, GPT-6 Astra reached 100% of the course, while rival models like Claude Fable 5.1 reached 45% and Grok stopped at 11%.

DARPA selects companies to build industrial quantum computers

🔬 In October 2026, DARPA selected four technology firms—Atom Computing, Diraq, IonQ, and IBM—to advance to physical testing for building fault-tolerant quantum computers by 2033.

Back in 2024, the agency launched the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative to test whether practical quantum systems can actually be built. Companies have already passed earlier evaluation stages by submitting detailed development plans.

Unlike regular computers that process data as zeros and ones sequentially, quantum systems use qubits to handle multiple options at once. This helps tackle heavy challenges like drug discovery.

AI could break crypto encryption sooner than quantum computers

⚠️

On October 7, 2026, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake and co-founder Vitalik Buterin warned that artificial intelligence could crack the ECDSA digital signature algorithms securing crypto networks within months. 🔒

This warning follows a sudden burst of mathematical breakthroughs from OpenAI, which recently published 722 math results. Researchers worry that advanced algorithms could exploit the complex structure of elliptic curves much faster than previously expected. 📉

You do not need to panic or make emergency fund transfers right now. To stay safe, experts recommend using fresh, unused addresses for your crypto transactions so your keys remain hidden behind a hash. 🛡️

Mecka AI raises $60 million for robot training data

Mecka AI has raised $60 million in a new funding round led by Sequoia to teach robots how to move just like you do. The startup pays everyday people to record themselves doing chores while wearing body sensors and using smartphones. 🚀

Founded in 2024, the company builds the training data libraries that physical machines need, much like text databases helped train modern chatbots.

The round pushes the startup toward a $500 million valuation with backing from Nvidia and Microsoft, while rival XDOF targets a $1.2 billion valuation.

This real-world data helps humanoid robots learn practical tasks like making coffee or fixing cars without manual programming.
