General Atomics just pulled the curtain back on the Wildfire, a new concept drone that can fly a staggering 11,500 miles without stopping.
This machine isn't meant to just look around. It is built to carry anti-ship missiles. This means it can fly huge distances over the ocean to strike targets far from its home base. It effectively acts as a reusable, long-range missile platform. ✈️
For perspective, the well-known MQ-9 Reaper, also made by General Atomics, has a flight range of about 1,150 miles. The Wildfire increases that potential reach by tenfold. This drastically changes the math for how far away a launch platform needs to be from its target. 🌊
The goal here is to keep the equipment and operators as far from the front line as possible.
Distance is no longer a shield.
