Russia, Tanzania Roll Out Comprehensive Plan to Advance Tech, Energy & Tourism: Russian Ambassador

The historic state visit of the Tanzanian president to Russia has resulted in a comprehensive roadmap to elevate bilateral relations across multiple sectors, Andrey Avetisyan, ambassador of Russia to Tanzania, pointed out in an interview with Sputnik Africa.

According to him, key fields of cooperation include:

🔹Economy & Tech: Expanding cooperation in trade, agriculture, and logistics, alongside new frontiers in IT, AI, and digital sovereignty.

🔹Education: Russia provides 150 annual scholarships for Tanzanian students.

🔹Tourism: New direct flights are driving a rapid surge in Russian tourist bookings for Zanzibar and entire country.

🔹Energy & Mining: Rosatom is set to produce 3,000 tonnes of uranium annually by 2030. Additionally, Russia is offering safe, modern nuclear technologies to help Tanzania generate power.

🔹Agriculture: A Russian company is rapidly developing large-scale banana plantations in Tanzania for export.

“Russia Day” at the DITF.

On July 9, Russian Ambassador to Tanzania H.E. Andrey Avetisyan took part in the “Russia Day” within the framework of the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF). The Tanzanian side was represented by Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Hon. Dennis Londo.

The forum was aimed at facilitating dialogue among business communities of Russia, Tanzania and other East African states.

The event was attended by representatives of private and public Russian entities, including Rosatom, Wildberries, Inshu, St.Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange, Rapid Bio, and journalists of the information agencies “Sputnik Africa” and “African Initiative”.

The “Russia Day” at the DITF has been held on the Embassy’s initiative since 2024.

9 июля Посол России в Танзании А.Л.Аветисян принял участие в «Дне России», организованном в рамках 50-й Дар-эс-Саламской международной ярмарки («Сабасаба»). Танзанийскую сторону представлял заместитель министра промышленности и торговли Д.Лондо.

Мероприятие создаёт площадку для диалога экономоператоров России, Танзании и других государств Восточной Африки.

С российской стороны в мероприятии участвовал ряд государственных и частных структур, включая Госкорпорацию «Росатом», Wildberries, Inshu, Санкт-Петербургскую товарно-сырьевую биржу, Рапид Био, информационные агентства «Sputnik Africa» и «Африканская инициатива».

По инициативе Посольства «День России» проводится в рамках «Сабасаба» ежегодно с 2024 г.

After an over thirty-year break, regular flights between Moscow and Dar es Salaam (with a landing in Zanzibar) have been resumed. The flights will be carried out by Air Tanzania thrice a week.

On July 2, a solemn ceremony on the occasion of the launch of the direct Russia-Tanzania air route was held at the Vnukovo Airport, Moscow. The event was attended by Russian Minister of Economic Development H.E. Maxim Reshetnikov and Tanzanian Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism Hon. Dr. Ashatu Kijaji. During the ceremony, the ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in tourism between their respective ministries.

At the A.A.Karume International Airport, Zanzibar, the first flight arriving from Moscow was welcomed by Russian Ambassador to Tanzania H.E. Andrey Avetisyan and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Zanzibar Hon. Badria Attai Masoud.
