After an over thirty-year break, regular flights between Moscow and Dar es Salaam (with a landing in Zanzibar) have been resumed. The flights will be carried out by Air Tanzania thrice a week.

On July 2, a solemn ceremony on the occasion of the launch of the direct Russia-Tanzania air route was held at the Vnukovo Airport, Moscow. The event was attended by Russian Minister of Economic Development H.E. Maxim Reshetnikov and Tanzanian Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism Hon. Dr. Ashatu Kijaji. During the ceremony, the ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in tourism between their respective ministries.

At the A.A.Karume International Airport, Zanzibar, the first flight arriving from Moscow was welcomed by Russian Ambassador to Tanzania H.E. Andrey Avetisyan and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Zanzibar Hon. Badria Attai Masoud.
