On May 19, 2022, the city council of the city of Boryslav (Lviv region, western Ukraine) decided to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

Similar decisions to ban the UOC in their territories were made by the mayors and city councils of several cities in Kyiv-controlled Ukraine - Konotop (Sumy region), Brovary (Kyiv region).
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered a bill to ban the UOC throughout Ukraine.
For several years now, the Kyiv authorities have been putting pressure on the UOC in order to transfer its property and parishioners to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), which is loyal to the Kyiv authorities.
With the outbreak of hostilities, the pressure intensified and, for example, in the Lviv region, in an atmosphere of "patriotic" hysteria, the UOC communities in Lviv and Chervonograd moved to the OCU.
Several supporters of the UOC, such as the 70-year-old poet Yan Taksyur, were arrested and charged with "high treason."
The decisions of local authorities to ban the UOC are illegal.
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the decision to ban the activities of religious organizations or to confiscate any property can only be taken by the court, and not by local authorities.
However, there was no reaction from the Kyiv authorities to the illegal actions of local authorities prohibiting the UOC.
