Getting started

I hope it's alright if I ask a little question amongst those who might have a bit more experience and perspective.

I haven't really done any self hosting yet, but I am willing to try out a few things here and there, just to maybe get a little idea on what to expect and how this whole self hosting thing will work.

To start off, I would like to access my home network from outside. I have a FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber and I did activate the external access once I got the router, but when I try to access it, I get an instant error, worning me that my device has been registered with a non-public IP. I'm not sure whether this is an error in my understanding or if there are other factors involved.

As far as my understanding went, I think I might need an access to a Dynamic DNS Provider. But with the huge amount of providers there are out there, I'm not entirely sure on what to choose. Since I would like to just play around a bit for starters, and since my budget isn't exactly high, I would like to choose something rather cheap, free would be even better.

If I just have a misunderstanding on how my FRITZ!Box works, I'm fine with some pointers there as well. If I'm just stupid and blind, that's fine. In that case I hope I didn't caused any troubles
