🔎 Verification of Quantum Cryptography

🏛 RWTH Aachen
🇩🇪 Germany
👤 Dr. Dominique Unruh

⏳ Deadline : 30 September 2026

⚠️Apply Link⚠️

🗣More information: The project is to develop methods and tools for the formal verification of the security of quantum key distribution (QKD) and possibly other quantum cryptographic protocols. The research will consist both of developing the methods/foundations, as well as formalizing security definitions and concrete protocols. A focus is on actual quantum protocols (i.e., not just post-quantum cryptography), for example QKD or position verification or quantum commitments, etc., just to name some illustrative examples. The right choice of protocol, definitions, and techniques will also be part of the research work.

🔎 Open quantum system simulations with trapped ions

🏛 Stockholm University
🇸🇪 Sweden
👤 Prof. Markus Hennrich

⏳ Deadline : 28 September 2026

⚠️Apply Link⚠️

🗣More information: The Trapped Ion Quantum Technology Group at Stockholm University invites applications for a highly motivated PhD student to join our experimental trapped ion research. The aim of the PhD project is to investigate open spin-boson systems with trapped ions. This position is part of the QuantERA project " Collective quantum phenomena in dissipative systems – towards time-crystal applications in sensing and metrology (CoQuaDis)".
The CoQuaDis project aims to study many-body phases in open quantum systems and to demonstrate their use in sensing and timekeeping. At Stockholm University, we realize such systems using crystals of trapped ions, which provide long trapping times, controllable interactions mediated by collective vibrations, and in-situ cooling. This enables stable operation and continuous readout of dissipative many-body phases. This highly controllable platform allows us to address fundamental questions in open quantum many-body dynamics.

🔎 Theoretical Physics | Mechanical Quantum Sensors for Fundamental Physics

🏛 TU Delft
🇳🇱 Netherlands
👤 Professor Julen Simón Pedernales

⏳ Deadline :15 September 2026

⚠️Apply Link⚠️

🗣More information:  As a PhD candidate at TU Delft, you will develop analytical and numerical models describing the quantum dynamics of mechanical systems and their interactions with complex environments. Building on these models, you will investigate quantum control and noise mitigation techniques to prepare, manipulate, and protect fragile quantum states, improving the performance of mechanical systems for sensing, metrology, and tests of fundamental physics. By combining experimentally grounded models of realistic quantum systems with abstract theoretical frameworks from quantum information and the foundations of quantum physics, you will establish what laboratory-scale quantum experiments can, and cannot, reveal about the quantum-to-classical transition, decoherence, the interface between gravity and quantum mechanics, and the fundamental laws governing nature.
