British police are looking for an “Iranian connection” in the preparation of a terrorist attack at a U.S.-used air base, Sky News reports, citing sources.

It is noted that the plot to carry out an explosion at RAF Fairford “has become the subject of a major counterterrorism investigation” by British police. However, the origins of the foiled operation are not yet known.

❗️Earlier, British police detained five men near Fairford base on suspicion of explosives-related offenses. The investigation is being conducted by the counterterrorism unit.

❗️Fairford is the only base in Europe that receives U.S. strategic bombers. In March, London allowed the United States to use it for strikes against Iran, stating that these would involve only “defensive” operations.
