The Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526–1593) became a master of Mannerism through his portraits composed of unusual objects.
Instead of faces, his canvases feature fruits, fish, books, and kitchenware. Some of these works are reversible—when rotated 180 degrees, an ordinary still life transforms into a human face. This style celebrates the triumph of imagination over reality.
