🇨🇦 Quebec votes while Ottawa writes the script

The absurd part is not that trade will dominate Quebec’s Oct. 5 election. It is that a province is now campaigning around fallout from decisions increasingly made above its head, outside its control, and usually in service of somebody else’s grand global scheme. As reported, Quebec heads into an election with trade front and centre, which tells you everything about modern Canada: provincial politics reduced to managing damage from federal weakness and international dependency.

This is the Trudeau legacy in one neat package. Erode sovereignty, overexpose the economy, bury domestic priorities under climate theatre and global posturing, then let voters fight over the scraps. Quebec politicians will pretend they can shield workers and industries, but without national control over borders, energy, regulation, and trade leverage, they are negotiating from inside a cage. The managerial class calls this interdependence. Normal people call it vulnerability. And when elections revolve around external pressure instead of internal strength, that is not healthy federalism. That is a country being managed, not governed.
