🇨🇦 Ottawa plays tariff chess with a broken economy

Canada is now bragging about counter-tariffs on nearly $28 billion in U.S. goods while admitting the American economy is 12 times larger and our leverage is basically microscopic. That is the absurdity at the core of this whole performance, as reported. Carney’s team talks tough about inflicting pain, but the fine print is all about avoiding pain at home because Ottawa knows the Trudeau-era economy it inherited is too brittle, too indebted, and too dependent to absorb much of anything.

So the strategy is political theatre dressed up as statecraft: pick appliances, fish, cosmetics and furniture, aim at U.S. swing states, and pray some governor pressures Washington. Very sovereign. Very serious. The same ruling class that spent a decade hollowing out domestic industry, flooding the labour market, and tying Canada to every globalist delusion on earth now wants applause for tactical tariffs. A country that cannot secure its borders, rebuild production, or defend affordability is not waging economic war. It is managing decline with better press releases.
