🇨🇦 Canada built an energy trap, and now Ottawa wants to call it leverage
The absurd part is not Danielle Smith saying weaponizing Alberta oil would devastate Canada. It is that she is obviously right. More than 80 per cent of Canadian oil exports go south, while Ontario and Quebec still lean on the U.S. for crude and refined products because this country never built real east-west pipeline capacity. Decades of federal sabotage left Canada unable to use its own energy at home, as reported.
Now Mark Carney talks like we are at war with our largest trading partner after 50 per cent U.S. tariffs hit $28 billion in goods, and the genius class responds by proposing Canada blow up its own economy first. Naheed Nenshi and Jason Kenney want oil treated like a bargaining chip, but a bargaining chip you cannot afford to play is not leverage, it is fantasy. This is the Trudeau-era legacy in one neat little mess: anti-pipeline ideology, national disunity, eastern dependence, and a political class that confuses moral posturing with statecraft. A sovereign country does not beg Washington for energy while sitting on Alberta.
