🇨🇦 Police had an active warrant and still let him drive away
A 32-year-old with an outstanding arrest warrant crashed a work truck on July 21, and officers at the scene never even ran his information. Two days later, Tyler Day allegedly hit six-year-old Zafeer Munir, fled, and now faces impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and failing to remain, as reported. The excuse from police is pure bureaucratic parody: non-criminal call, file concluded. Translation: procedure mattered more than public safety.
And then comes the usual system-covering shrug from the expert class: maybe he would have been released anyway. Exactly the problem. A country drowning in soft policing, revolving-door bail, and managerial box-ticking keeps pretending these disasters are just fate. They are policy outcomes. When state institutions stop acting like guardians of order and start operating like risk-averse HR departments, ordinary Canadians and their kids pay the price.
