🇨🇦 CRA Knows the Fraudster, Won't Press Charges
B.C. nurse Leslie Warner had her identity stolen, her CRA account hacked, and a bogus refund issued in her name back in 2020. The impostor is now identified as Edmonton-area woman Christina Cherpak, already charged in unrelated fraud. CRA's criminal investigations unit never contacted Warner. At least 26 healthcare workers hit by similar hacks. The agency's response? We take it seriously, trust us. Former CRA investigator Shawna Roy left in 2024 after blowing the whistle on fraud detection failures, says the bleeding won't stop because CRA cares more about reputation than enforcement.
Minister François-Philippe Champagne won't say if any criminal investigations are even underway. They recovered the money from Warner's file, closed the case, moved on. Public treasury looted, fraudster known to police, evidence ready to go, and the tax collector shrugs. This is governance by appearance, not accountability. Your money, their indifference.
