🇨🇦 Alberta separatism drops the minute Ottawa tosses a few scraps
Danielle Smith says Alberta separation support has fallen from 45 per cent after Carney’s election to 22 per cent now, with 72 per cent backing remain, as reported. Translation: Ottawa has spent decades proving the West exists to be taxed, regulated, lectured and equalized into obedience, and Albertans are still being told the answer is to wait for nicer treatment from the same central Canadian machine.
Smith is right about one thing: separatism spikes when federal elites punish the productive parts of the country. Chrétien did it. Trudeau perfected it. Carney is now trying the usual managerial trick, lower the temperature just enough to keep the revenue flowing and the dissent manageable. But a country that only works when Alberta is temporarily appeased is not a stable federation, it is a supervised extraction zone. If Ottawa can wreck your energy sector, dilute your representation, and then expect gratitude when anger drops from 45 to 22, that is not unity. That is imperial maintenance with bilingual branding.
