Today is the deadline to apply for the academic exchange contest 🌍

If you’re already an international student, this is a chance to take that experience even further and explore the academic world beyond Russia. Just ask our student Ildus Erbaev from Kyrgyzstan!

For Ildus, a Bachelor’s student in software engineering at ITMO, a semester exchange at Ajman University (UAE) was a deeply personal and eye-opening experience.

What I liked most was the attitude of the university staff, dormitory employees, and people in general toward students, especially international ones.

During his exchange, Ildus took part in lots of special events for exchange students: from exploring local landmarks to an unforgettable meeting with the university rector, where conversations flowed in a friendly, informal atmosphere.

Among my pleasant memories, I would also highlight sports and the coaches. The quality and the community built around it are impressive.

New cultures, strong academic values, meaningful connections, and a supportive community — this is how Ildus describes his time in the UAE.

Overall, the exchange experience was extremely useful and enriching, both academically and personally.

Meet Tania Shokor, an ITMO graduate who combined her love for languages with her passion for robotics and AI 🤖

While getting her Bachelor’s in robotics and Master’s in robotics and AI, she became an active part of ITMO’s English Speaking Club and Buddy System. Throughout her time at the university, she turned from a recent arrival into a confident mentor who helped other students practice their English and make lasting friendships.

She speaks fondly about her experience running the ITMO Speaking Club:

Then there are the participants. People come to the club incredibly open to meeting others, and that openness is contagious. You see regular participants gradually forming their own little communities and friendships. Seeing those connections form is very heartwarming.
