📰 Gemini will serve as the foundation for the next generation of Apple Intelligence (the deal value has not been disclosed).
🤪 This doesn’t mean “Hey Siri” will be replaced with “Okay Google” — Gemini won’t become the default assistant. Apple will simply use it as a model.
🔑 The main reason is privacy: Apple wants Siri to run on-device, while more complex requests will be handled via Apple Private Cloud Compute — without storing user request history.
📆 Mark Gurman suggests the updated Siri could arrive as early as this spring alongside the release of iOS 26.4. However, it remains unclear whether Apple can adapt Gemini to its needs that quickly. Most likely, the new era of Apple Intelligence will be announced in June at WWDC 2026.
😤 As expected, Elon Musk reacted negatively to the Apple–Google deal, under which Gemini will be used as the base for the new Siri. Musk likely would prefer Apple to use Grok, developed by his company xAI. In 2025, xAI sued Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of collusion aimed at “ensuring their continued dominance” in the AI market.
