💸 Apple hit with a record $5.7B verdict over Taptic Engine patents

📰 A San Diego federal jury found that the Taptic Engine in iPhone and Apple Watch infringes two Taction Technology patents and awarded $5.72B, the largest US patent award to date. Taction sued in 2021.

👨‍⚖️ The jury found the infringement wasn't willful. Apple says the Taptic Engine is fundamentally different from Taction's technology and will appeal. It's still only a jury verdict. Post-trial motions and an appeal come next, so the amount could be cut or overturned.
