What is an ion? What is an ion trap? How can we use it for biology, chemistry, and quantum computing?

All the answers for these questions are available in the lecture "The secret life of ions: From biomolecules to quantum computers" by Dr. Juliette Leroux from University of Hamburg.

Synopsis:
What do a tiny biomolecule and a future quantum computer have in common? Both can be explored using one of the strangest tools in modern science: an ion trap. By using electric fields to hold individual charged particles in place, we can study the molecules of life, control single atoms, and rearrange the building blocks of quantum technologies. In this talk, we will follow the surprising journey of ion traps—from understanding how molecules behave to manipulating the quantum world—and discover how one scientific tool can open doors to completely different futures.

Wine is nice, wine is tasty, wine is good. But why and how does the wine tastes like it tastes?

All of that is being answered in the second talk/wine tasting event of the "Smart Emigration to the Future" sub-festival of "Emigration to the Future" festival in Berlin. Nikolai Trofimov, a Ph.D. Candidate, University of Bremen. Rocks are his thing.
He has hunted for gold, worked at a particle accelerator, accidentally improved the lab's ventilation with a very small explosion, and can explain how to cook a dumpling using just a single drop of water.
Now he has turned his attention to a question that truly matters: why does wine taste the way it does? And he provides this answer in collaboration with Aglaia Tcidulko.

Synopsis:

Spoiler: progress is good, but not always immediate. In this lecture on forever chemicals, Aglaia reveals which technologies quietly shrank human life expectancy and why we didn’t see it coming.
