Outcomes: its view of the English language, of the process of language learning and of teaching English as an additional language were all VERY SERIOUSLY FLAWED.
1. How should the repeated exposure to massive numbers of lexical chunks be organized? Frequency of occurrence in the biggest corpora seems the most reasonable criterion for the selection and presentation of lexical items, but Dellar largely ignores this criterion, as witnessed by the coursebooks, and by the hundreds of lexical chunks he chooses for his “One Minute English” videos.
2. Do Dellar and Walkley really think that most of the classroom time should be devoted to the explicit teaching of “the most frequent words in English”?
3. How do Walkley and Dellar respond to Pawley and Syder’s argument and to the research findings which suggest that it’s unreasonable to expect foreign Language classroom learners to remember even a small subset of the hundreds of thousands lexical chunks that native speakers know? As Swan (2006) points out, “memorizing 10 lexical chunks a day, a learner would take nearly 30 years to achieve a good command of 10,000 of them”. So how does one select which chunks to explicitly teach, and how does one teach them? Walkley and Dellar give no satisfactory answer to the question.
Также он пишет: exposure to unput floods where collocations are frequently repeated has poor results.
