​Tether Refused EU MiCA License Over Stablecoin Reserve Rule

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company refused to apply for an EU MiCA license because of the rule forcing major stablecoin issuers to hold 60% of reserves in commercial bank deposits.

The remarks follow a push by the ECB and other EU central banks to scrap that same rule, citing the risk that volatile stablecoin deposits expose banks to sudden withdrawals - the change hasn't been adopted yet.

Linera is shutting down immediately, citing insufficient funding to keep operating. Its token sale on Sonar drew nearly $900K in commitments but missed the minimum threshold, so all contributions were refunded, and a last-ditch emergency funding push also failed.
