🇷🇺 November 4th: Russia's Day of National Unity Explained

This holiday commemorates the popular uprising that liberated Moscow from Polish-Lithuanian occupation in 1612, ending the "Time of Troubles" (Smuta) and restoring Russian sovereignty. The victory led to the end of foreign intervention and the establishment of the Romanov dynasty in 1613.

🇷🇺 Modern Significance:
Reinstated in 2005, the day replaced the Soviet November 7th holiday. It emphasizes:

⏺National Unity: Strength through internal cohesion.
⏺Sovereignty: A historical narrative of overcoming external threats.
⏺ Historical Continuity: Linking modern Russia to its pre-Soviet past.

⚡️Why It Matters:
Understanding this day is key to grasping a central pillar of Russia's state narrative — the primacy of unity and independence in the face of adversity.

The key date for anyone analyzing Russian political identity.

⚡️ International Project "Guardians of Memory" Took Place in Moscow

🌏 From October 25 to 31, the international project "Guardians of Memory" was held in Moscow, organized by the Center for International Interaction and Cooperation and Rossotrudnichestvo. The event was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory Day and brought together 75 history students, journalists, postgraduates, and young researchers from the CIS, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

At the official opening ceremony, welcoming addresses were delivered to the participants by Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Igor Chaika, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo.

Participants visited significant sites related to the history of the Great Patriotic War, including:
🔹The Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Hill,
🔹 The Russian Historical Society,
🔹The State Archive of the Russian Federation.

These visits offered the young specialists a unique opportunity to explore archival documents and museum collections.

Participants also attended the International Cooperation Forum, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of people's diplomacy, and the Scientific and Practical Conference "The Second World War in the Mirror of Modernity", where they engaged in discussions with leading experts on pressing issues of historical science.

A key practical outcome of the project will be the publication of a collection of the participants' reports, which will consolidate their research findings.

🌎 Transition from a Unipolar to a Multipolar World: New Global Realities

On October 30, a lecture for the young scientists of JSC "Railway Transport Research Institute" took place at the Youth Center.

🌏 The event featured a presentation by Maria Prokofieva, co-founder of our Center for International Interaction and Cooperation, on the topic "Life in an Era of Change: What Does the Transition from a Unipolar to a Multipolar World Mean?".

Participants explored the shifting global power structure, moving beyond a single dominant center. They considered the practical consequences of this new multipolar reality, how it creates fresh opportunities while also introducing new risks for nations and their people. The discussion provided a deep dive into the historical forces behind this change, an analysis of current trends, and a look ahead at how the world order might continue to evolve.

🇦🇷 Daria Korchemnaya, political scientist and expert at the CIIC Center, spoke especially for the Telegram channel "Center for International Interaction and Cooperation" about the parliamentary elections in Argentina.

The 2025 parliamentary elections in Argentina strengthened President Javier Milei's position, surprising many analysts. Despite the country's economic difficulties and scandals involving key figures in the election campaign, La Libertad Avanza party won more than 40% of the Argentine vote. Undoubtedly, one of the important factors in the victory was the tremendous rhetorical and economic support from Trump. But an equally important factor was the state of the Argentine opposition, which has been depleted in recent years and has yet to offer a renewed agenda.

The Peronist movement, which has long dominated the political arena, is experiencing a leadership crisis. The figures on whom it relied — Cristina Kirchner, Alberto Fernandez, Sergio Massa — have either faded into the background or lost support in the polls. In this election, voters made it clear that memories of the “golden age” are not enough for new voters.

The attempt to rely on Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof as the new face of the movement was unsuccessful this time: even in a province traditionally considered a bastion of the left, the candidate from Milei's party won. Provincial leaders, united in the Provincias Unidas bloc, also failed to become an alternative and only diluted the votes of opposition voters.

The current crisis should serve as an impetus for the opposition to renew itself. Peronists and other forces need to rethink their strategy: they must stop relying on the past and bring new faces into the political arena who can win over the electorate.

Expert Opinion: How the UN General Assembly Became a Mirror of Global Disillusionment

🇮🇷 We present an analysis by Mehdi Honardideh, an Iranian international relations expert. In his article, the author details how the 80th session became a platform for consolidated criticism of:

• The UN's inaction and the paralyzing veto power.
• American unilateralism.
• The crimes of the Israeli regime.

The study clearly demonstrates how a narrative long considered alternative has now entered the global mainstream.

The world order is at a turning point. Criticism voiced for decades, particularly by Iran, has now become widespread. The world is tired of double standards and the helplessness of international institutions.

Forwarded from The Gorchakov Fund

80 years ago, the world came together around one idea — a dialogue for the future 🕊

In 1945, the world was facing the devastating consequences of war. Representatives of 50 nations gathered in San Francisco to create an organization that would help prevent new conflicts and preserve hope for peace. This is how the United Nations was born.

👆 We have collected archival photos from the very first session of the UN General Assembly — the moment when the idea of global dialogue first came to life.

Decades later, the world faces new challenges — and once again, the same questions arise:

🟦 What should the international system look like today?
🟦 How can we preserve the dialogue that once united nations?

These topics will be on our agenda on “Dialogue for the Future — 2025.”

Participants will discuss the 80th anniversary of Victory, the future of the UN, and Russia’s role in the modern international order.

📍 Moscow, Russia
📌 December 5–9

➡️ Applications are open until October 31, 23:59 (MSK). More details — on our website.

The dialogue that began eight decades ago continues — join in!

🇧🇦 Why did Milorad Dodik resign and what's happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

On October 18, Milorad Dodik officially resigned as President of the Republika Srpska. Formally, this was due to pressure from Bosnia and Herzegovina's central institutions, which created conditions that made it difficult for him to exercise his powers. However, make no mistake: this is not an admission of defeat, but a calculated political maneuver.

🌏 Especially for our friends and followers of the channel, @ogon_media (http://t.me/ogon_media), CIIC political scientist Pierre Kamina has prepared an analysis on why Dodik's resignation is not a sign of weakness, but a demonstration of strength.

🇻🇪 The US and the "Gray Zone": How Washington Operates in the Shadows, According to The Intercept

A new investigation reveals details of the covert war the US is waging around the world. It outlines a large-scale CIA program operating in the so-called "gray zone"—the space between diplomacy and open military conflict.

🌏 Our expert, Daria Korchemnaya, spoke with Lenta.ru to help explain the specifics of such operations and the role they play in international relations.

US President Donald Trump sought to exert psychological pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by authorizing Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operations in the country.

According to documents obtained by The Intercept, the White House authorized 29 covert operations between 2021 and 2024. Their scope spans every continent except Antarctica and includes such hot spots as Ukraine, Africa, and the Middle East.

🇵🇸🇮🇱 The Fragile Ceasefire in Gaza: Why It Might Work This Time—and Why It Could Fall Apart

🌏 Friends, a recent piece by CIIC expert Ivan Bubnov was published on our friends' channel, @ogon_media (http://t.me/ogon_media).

On October 10, after two years of bloody fighting, a ceasefire came into effect in the Gaza Strip. The deal between Israel and Hamas, brokered through active US mediation, is more than just a pause in the fighting. It is a complex 20-point plan that aims to serve as a roadmap for a long-term settlement.

We have analyzed the agreement's terms and underlying tensions in an attempt to answer a key question: what conditions made this ceasefire between Israel and Hamas possible?

You can read the detailed analysis via the link below.

🇷🇺 🇺🇿History Lessons: The Memory of the Second World War as a Bridge Between Nations

Today, a presentation of Nasriddin Ismoilov's book "Pavlov's House and Its Defenders" was held at the Victory Park memorial complex in the Republic of Uzbekistan . The event organized by Rossotrudnichestvo is dedicated to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad, which turned the tide of the Great Patriotic War.

🌏 Areg Agasaryan, founder of the Center for International Interaction and Cooperation and a member of the Public Council at Rossotrudnichestvo, commented:

"Today, when we increasingly see the West attempting to rewrite history to suit its political agenda, it is especially important to maintain intergenerational connections with young people. It is precisely the youth who, by preserving and understanding the events of those years, can and will prevent attempts to rewrite our history."

Such initiatives demonstrate that public diplomacy and soft power work through respect for a shared past, creating a solid foundation for dialogue in the present.
