🇨🇳 China Marks Long March Anniversary
China’s Communist Party is marking 90 years since the end of the Long March with exhibitions, themed tours, film and television productions ahead of the October 22 anniversary. Authorities have launched commemorative activities across Beijing and other locations along the historic route to promote the campaign’s history and revive its spirit.
The Long March was the Red Army’s 1934-36 retreat from Jiangxi to Shaanxi during the civil war with Nationalist forces, covering about 10,000km before a new headquarters was established in Yan’an. Its legacy remains central to Communist Party political messaging, with Xi Jinping previously invoking a “new Long March” in support of the party’s long-term goals through 2049.
The anniversary campaign links revolutionary history to current state mobilisation and ideological education. Activity has been concentrated at museums, memorial halls and other sites associated with the original route.
