🇰🇪 Kenya raises fuel prices as Middle East supply disruptions lift import costs
Kenya raised the maximum retail price of petrol and diesel on Wednesday, increasing petrol by 6 per cent and diesel by 4.5 per cent, while also lifting the price of kerosene. The increase comes as the country, which relies on the Middle East for nearly all of its fuel supplies, faces higher import costs linked to attacks on energy infrastructure and threats to shipping in the region.
The energy regulator said the government extended a reduction in value-added tax on fuel to 8 per cent from 16 per cent until 14 January. Kenya’s transport operators warned of ripple effects for consumers, after similar fuel price hikes triggered street protests in May.
