🇨🇩 Ebola outbreak in DR Congo spreads to North Ubangi bordering CAR
Two health officials told Reuters on October 16 that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has spread to North Ubangi province on the border with the Central African Republic, with two cases recorded there. The development, not yet announced by Congolese authorities, makes North Ubangi the eighth province affected after suspect deaths were reported in the Wapinda health area near the Bas-Uele border.
The outbreak, declared on May 15, is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is no vaccine or treatment. According to figures released on October 15, it has caused more than 9,000 cases and 4,441 deaths, while a first clinical trial for a vaccine is expected to begin in the DRC by the end of October, according to the WHO.
