🇧🇫 Burkina Faso inaugurates first gold refinery in Ouagadougou
Burkina Faso on 28 September inaugurated its first gold refinery, Raffinor-BF, in Ouagadougou in the presence of junta leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré, according to the presidency. Construction began in late November 2023, and the facility has the capacity to process 164 tonnes of gold per year, with plans to eventually increase this to 515 tonnes. The project cost more than CFA11bn, around $20m, and was financed by the Burkinabè state in partnership with domestic private investors.
The presidency said the refinery is part of a drive to keep more of the mining value chain inside the country. Mining Minister Yacouba Zabré Gouba said the project is expected to create 100 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs.
