🇺🇸🌍 AGOA reauthorized through 2028 as African trade access to US market extended

The U.S. Congress has extended the African Growth and Opportunity Act through December 31, 2028, preserving duty-free access for more than 1,800 tariff lines for 33 African countries. According to the AGOA Civil Society Organization Network, African exports under AGOA exceeded US$30 billion in 2024, with apparel exports above US$1.4 billion and agricultural exports rising by more than 20%.

The AGOA CSO Network said the two-year extension should be used to push for modernization ahead of the next reauthorization cycle and called for coordinated African input at AfrICANDO 2026 in Umuahia, hosted by the Abia State Government. South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana and the DRC were identified among key country cases in the process.
