🇳🇬🇺🇸 US steps up engagement with Nigeria over critical minerals

Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake led a delegation to the White House in early August for talks on US-Nigeria cooperation in critical minerals, meeting David Copley, special assistant to US President Donald Trump. The visit came as Washington intensified efforts to reduce US dependence on China-dominated critical mineral supply chains.

The talks reflect growing US interest in Nigeria’s mineral sector as competition with China expands across Africa’s extractive industries. The Africa Report said Washington is seeking to catch up with Beijing in the race for access to Nigeria’s critical minerals.
