🇪🇹 Seven Ethiopian armed groups form alliance against Abiy Ahmed government

Seven Ethiopian rebel groups, including the Fano militia, the Oromo Liberation Army, the Tigray People's Liberation Front and four smaller groups, have announced a new coalition called Alliance for Survival aimed at removing the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa. The alliance includes groups active in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, Somali, Afar and Benishangul-Gumuz, covering six of Ethiopia's 12 regional states.

The groups accused the government of presiding over war, genocide, mass destruction and poverty. Abiy's spokesperson Billene Seyoum said the groups had already been collaborating for some time, while the announcement comes amid renewed tensions in Tigray, where a two-year civil war ended with an African Union peace deal in 2022.
