🇸🇴🇺🇸 Somaliland President Irro begins first Washington visit

Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Irro Abdullahi arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport on 5 September for a two-week visit to the US capital, his first since taking office. During the trip, Irro held meetings in Washington and was pictured with Senator Ted Cruz on Capitol Hill on 19 September 2026.

The visit comes as Somaliland continues to seek stronger US engagement and international recognition, while Somalia maintains that Somaliland remains part of its territory despite the breakaway region’s self-declared independence.
