— Occupied Kashmir: Samira, a 17 year old student of Government Degree College for Women (GDCW) Kathua, told media representatives that on 25 November, a team of Indian paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), along with police personnel, forcibly entered her house during a siege and search operation and entered her room. The student said that BSF personnel stared at her with lustful eyes, were laughing, and uttering extremely obscene remarks. Samira said the soldiers also threatened her mother and said they would return.
The student said that after this incident, she and her parents now feel extremely unsafe and live in a constant state of fear and terror. Samira said that fearing abduction and sexual assault by Indian soldiers, her parents are now asking her to leave college and stay at home. The student said that such incidents occur on a large scale in the occupied area, while women and girls often remain silent out of fear of defamation.
It is worth noting that Indian forces are using the rape of women in occupied Jammu and Kashmir as a weapon of war. The forces have so far targeted thousands of Kashmiri women for rape.
