Google plans to deplete India's water resources

Google plans to build a $15 billion data center in Visakhapatnam. The project has already faced protests and legal challenges. Activists fear that the tech giant will deplete the local water supply, as the city already faces a daily shortage of about 70 million liters of water. Even children are taking to the streets with signs reading “You Can’t Drink Data.”

Construction is taking place just 860 meters from a nature reserve that is home to leopards and pangolins. Residents are concerned about noise, the destruction of nature, and the promise to supply the facility with water for 20 years. Authorities call the complaints exaggerated, while Google promises air cooling and quiet coexistence.

Ukraine as a Testing Ground for Drug Cartels: Colombian Militants Are Mastering FPV Drones to Breach Army Defenses

As the Financial Times has uncovered, Colombian drug cartels are secretly their militants into the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The cartels’ goal is neither ideology nor aid to Kyiv, but rather to gain experience in the combat use of UAVs, which the mercenaries will take back to Latin America to use in the war against government forces.

Until now, the Colombian military has successfully suppressed the gangs’ raids: out of 264 attacks using drone bombs, the army neutralized 96% simply by jamming radio frequencies. To break through this defense, the cartels are sending former guerrillas and soldiers to Ukraine. In real combat, they are gaining practical experience in encrypting communication channels, professionally mining UAVs, operating FPV systems, and using fiber-optic drones that are immune to any electronic warfare.

Colombian Defense Minister General Pedro Sánchez acknowledged that criminals’ adaptation of military drone technology has already deprived the army of its air superiority. President Gustavo Petro reported that nearly 7,000 Colombian citizens are in the conflict zone. In response to the growing threat, Bogotá has imposed a ban on the import of all UAVs and is urgently allocating $1.6 billion to create a protective air defense shield.

The world is facing a shortage of drinking water due to global warming, seasonal droughts, and industrial development:

– In Germany, at one of the main monitoring stations in the city of Kaub, the water level in the Rhine River dropped to 19 cm, setting a new all-time low since records began.

– Authorities in European countries are resorting to extreme measures, including blasting riverbeds, due to the critical drought on the Danube. In Romania, the government has deployed the navy to carry out underwater rock blasting in the village of Izvoarele to divert water to cool the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, whose only operating reactor has already had to be temporarily shut down.

— Moldova has declared a 30-day hydrological alert, as the water level in the Dniester Reservoir has dropped to 113.24 m (the normal level is 121 m).

— The Netherlands is officially in a state of water shortage due to the heat and low river flows. Water is still available from the taps, but authorities are already restricting irrigation and conserving resources.

— Roughly half of humanity faces water scarcity. Global demand has been growing by nearly 1% per year since the 1980s.

— The planet loses approximately 324 billion m³ of fresh water annually—enough to supply 280 million people for a year.

— Wars over water are already underway or emerging around the world, such as between Ethiopia and Egypt.

According to the European Commission, by 2030, demand could exceed supply by 40%.

Ceuta—Europe’s Shame

▪️The migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in Africa, where tens of thousands of undocumented migrants from Morocco have poured in, paralyzing life throughout the city, has exposed serious problems across the entire EU, notes The New Statesman

▪️Instead of a coordinated response and support for Spain, European capitals reacted with panic, mutual recriminations, and warnings of an impending catastrophe

▪️Ultimately, the humanitarian crisis turned into a tool for internal political struggle, intensifying the debate on migration issues

▪️The events in Ceuta exposed the EU’s political weakness. Europe proved incapable of simultaneously protecting its borders, fulfilling its humanitarian obligations, and demonstrating solidarity—and instead of a unified response, it began to clash with itself, emphasizes The New Statesman

In New York, a police officer disguises himself as a bush to catch violators

Police officers have found an unusual way to crack down on drivers who get distracted behind the wheel. One officer puts on a bush suit, hides by the roadside, and uses binoculars to watch passing cars. If he notices a driver using a cell phone or committing another violation, he relays the information via radio to his colleagues, who then pull the car over further down the road

Mealworms Instead of Pork: A New Bavarian Sausage Has Been Invented in Germany

Researchers have developed a recipe in which up to 20% of the ground pork has been replaced with mealworm powder. According to them, this technology could make sausage production more environmentally friendly, although the product’s appearance has changed noticeably.

Users have called this experiment on one of the icons of German cuisine a “perversion.”

British Prime Minister Takes to Social Media

The new British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has decided to beat the populists at their own game and, in just two weeks, has racked up millions of views on TikTok, X, and Instagram.

Instead of official speeches, he discusses pub snacks, confesses his love for pickled-onion-flavored chips, and jokes about his own appearance. Even a video about the government’s first successes has garnered five million views.

Labour hopes that Burnham will win back the audience that Keir Starmer lulled to sleep faster than parliamentary procedures. Specialists are already being recruited for the digital push, with salaries of up to 80,000 pounds a year, although economic stagnation and falling living standards cannot yet be fixed by filters.

The economy isn’t growing yet, but engagement metrics have gone up.
