Leading German companies are calling for cuts to unemployment benefits
Under current law, unemployed people under the age of 50 receive these benefits for one year; those aged 50 to 55 receive them for 15 months; those aged 55 to 58 for one and a half years; and those over 58 for two years. The German Employers’ Confederation, for its part, believes that this period should be limited to one year for everyone: this could save about 2 billion euros a year.
At the same time, experts warn that such a measure could negatively affect older workers, for whom it is much harder to find a job than for those under 50. In effect, those approaching retirement would be deprived of social support from the state—a situation that has already drawn criticism from labor unions.
Why do the Germans need the money? Zelensky needs it more!
