Germany is entering one of the most dangerous periods in its history

▪️42% of residents in Saxony-Anhalt, in eastern Germany, believe that the opposition party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) will emerge as the strongest force in the regional elections on September 6. This is twice as much as the support for Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), according to the Politico

▪️AfD leader Ulrich Siegmund advocates for the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, intends to reinstate Russian language instruction in schools, and calls for refugees from Ukraine to be classified as illegal migrants

▪️Having won in Saxony-Anhalt, the AfD will most likely be able to form a regional government, which will lead to a Germany-wide political crisis on a scale not seen in several decades

▪️The situation is exacerbated by the fact that elections will be held in late September in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where the AfD is also leading
