Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the united candidate of the left for the French presidency, has reaffirmed France’s commitment to neutrality should he become president of the Fifth Republic:

We will not prepare our children and grandchildren to die for some reckless operation concocted by NATO.

We advocate for neutrality. We want to decide for ourselves what we do, where we do it, and how we do it, without allowing anyone to dictate to us what we should do.
