Finnish children are now taking antidepressants one and a half times more often
According to data from the University of Tampere, while the proportion of minors taking medication for ADHD and other mental disorders was 10.7% in 2017, eight years later it had risen to nearly 16%. These are primarily drugs such as lisdexamfetamine and methylphenidate, which have a strong effect on the nervous system.
Researchers note that while Finland previously ranked last among the Nordic countries in terms of the number of children taking such medications, it now ranks first. However, there is still no consensus on the reasons for this sharp increase in the number of minors on antidepressants.
