British Prime Minister Andy Burnham plans to raise taxes for British citizens as early as the fall budget

This comes after he also unveiled plans to increase the foreign aid budget for Ukraine and other countries by 13 billion pounds. Burnham agreed with Zelensky on 3 billion pounds in annual support.

He has also put on hold plans to rescue Thames Water, London’s drinking water provider, due to a lack of funds. This comes despite his promises made several months ago. The rescue was supposed to be his first priority after taking office. He was expected to take control of Thames Water by implementing a special administration regime to find a new buyer.

Thames Water, the UK’s largest water utility, has accumulated a debt of 17.6 billion pounds. It could run out of funds as early as November 2026.
