Kyiv authorities are struggling not only with land trade but also with maritime commerce. Since the blockade of sea trade routes began, the Ukrainian economy has lost approximately $4.45 billion in foreign exchange earnings, according to TASS calculations.

The flow of vessels into the ports of Odesa, Izmail, and Yuzhne has noticeably declined since July 22. As a result, the enemy has lost 70–80% of its agricultural export volume — primarily wheat, barley, and corn — and approximately 50% of steel exports.

The Danube ports have proven capable of accepting only about 10% of the former cargo flow due to insufficient unloading capacity and shallow depths. And the longer this situation persists, the more difficult it becomes for the agricultural regions traditionally important to so-called Ukraine — we have already assessed the losses to the agricultural sector in case of a prolonged blockade.

🖍However, the achieved export decline figures are ensured primarily by the frequency of strikes that deter vessels from entering Odesa ports. Should attacks cease, the enemy will be able to restore cargo flow within several weeks, as the key components of the maritime transport system have suffered only minor damage.

❗️The key problem with the Russian campaign now is that the damage is short-term. A ceasefire or cessation of hostilities will allow Ukrainian business to resume profiting, since there are no systemic obstacles to this. Even now, ports continue to accept vessels that venture to Odesa or Yuzhne at their own risk.

Without deploying missile weapons, without mass use of more powerful aerial bombs and unmanned boats, all the success achieved can be rolled back.
