Anatolii Makosov, the lead of TON Core, broke down Gram Wallet — and the main point is bigger than just “Telegram added a wallet”. Gram Wallet is trying to stitch Telegram and TON into one product layer: Telegram gives the users, TON handles the money logic.
🔝 What changed
⚫️ All wallet operations go through smart contracts on TON
⚫️ Gram can be sent even to users who never opened the wallet
⚫️ Backup can be disabled while keeping the same wallet address
⚫️ The seed can be rotated, and the wallet can later be moved into a standalone app
⚫️ TON Connect is connected once and then works across devices
⚫️ Users get 5 free transfers per day
⚫️ Other transfers are almost free after the latest fee reductions
⚫️ More than 72,293 wallets have already been activated
🔝 Why it matters
⚫️ Telegram is hiding the ugly parts of crypto behind a normal messenger UX
⚫️ Users do not need to understand contracts, seeds and network fees on day one
⚫️ TON still keeps the important part on-chain instead of turning the wallet into a fake crypto balance
⚫️ Key rotation and export support make the wallet less trapped inside Telegram
⚫️ Cross-device TON Connect makes dApp access feel closer to a Telegram-native login layer
The weak spot is already visible too: spam in transfer comments. If Telegram wants Gram Wallet to feel like normal money, it cannot let every transaction turn into a cheap message board for scammers.
But the direction is obvious. Gram Wallet is not just another TON wallet inside Telegram. It is Telegram trying to make TON invisible enough for normal users to actually touch it.
