TON validators have started voting on an update to the Telegram Wallet contract code. This is not a loud product launch or a shiny new button inside Telegram — it is a small technical fix, but exactly the kind that matters when a wallet is supposed to serve normal users.
🔝 What changes
⚫️ TON transfers can include encrypted comments
⚫️ These comments are meant to be readable only by the sender and the recipient
⚫️ Telegram Wallet supports private key rotation
⚫️ The new contract version should preserve access to encrypted comments after the key is changed
⚫️ The update goes through validator voting because Telegram Wallet logic lives in TON config
⚫️ If approved, the fix can apply to Telegram Wallet users at the contract level
🔝 Why it matters
⚫️ Key rotation is one of the most important parts of Telegram Wallet’s self-custody story
⚫️ Users should be able to change keys without silently breaking wallet history
⚫️ Encrypted comments may look like a minor feature, but they are part of the real payment experience
⚫️ Telegram cannot sell “easy crypto” if basic wallet details start disappearing after security actions
⚫️ This is boring infrastructure, but boring infrastructure is exactly what keeps mass products from turning into support nightmares
Gram Wallet is already past the marketing phase. Now TON is dealing with the less glamorous part: making sure the wallet survives real user behavior, key changes and edge cases without losing pieces of the transaction story.
