Yangon buildings ordered to install solar as blackouts grip Myanmar

October 14, 2026

Following rolling blackouts amid a nationwide power shortage, Myanmar’s regime has mandated that all new commercial buildings in Yangon must install solar-power systems. The Oct.1 order issued by the Yangon City Development Committee comes as prices soar for Chinese-made solar panels and batteries—a market monopolized by regime leader Min Aung Hlaing’s son, Aung Pyae Sone.
