❗️Smotrich says 'there will be no Sinai' if Egypt attacks Israel

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has threatened Egypt with the loss of the Sinai Peninsula if Cairo launches an attack against Israel, saying "there will be no Sinai" if Egypt goes to war.

"What would make Egypt not attack us? The understanding that if they attack us, there will be no Sinai at least," Smotrich said in a video interview from his home on Monday. "It will not happen again," he added, referring to Egypt's recapture of parts of Sinai during the 1973 war.

His remarks came as Egypt prepares to commemorate the 1973 war, which eventually led to Israel's withdrawal from Sinai under the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Monday that Egypt's armed forces remain ready to defend the country's national security "at all times and under any circumstances." Cairo has not immediately responded to Smotrich's remarks.
