❗️Iraq seeks alternative energy routes amid Strait of Hormuz disruption

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said Baghdad is working to develop new energy lines and corridors with regional countries to diversify supply routes amid disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Zaidi said Iraq was seeking to diversify its oil export ports and develop energy corridors linking Iraq with Turkiye, Jordan and Syria to access global markets and strengthen energy security.

He added that Baghdad was working to "contain the subsequent risks" linked to disruptions in transport and maritime navigation.

Iraq has been pursuing alternative export routes amid the disruption of its traditional Persian Gulf routes, including efforts to expand exports through Turkiye and develop routes through Syria.
