❗️US proposes UAE-hosted trilateral talks between Russia and Ukraine

The US has suggested that the United Arab Emirates host a trilateral meeting between Ukraine and Russia focused on efforts to end their four-and-a-half-year war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday.

"The American side has proposed ... meeting at a technical level in a three-way format," Zelensky told reporters during a WhatsApp briefing.

"We are awaiting a proposal from the United States regarding the date, and the United States has suggested the Emirates as a possible location."

Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York this week, with the two discussing efforts to end the war that began in February 2022.

Following the meeting, Zelensky said Ukrainian negotiators held talks with US officials to work through specific details.

"We will inform and discuss these details with the European side, the Americans will talk to the Russians, and we will return in 10 days with either a new perspective or a result," Zelensky said.

The Kremlin said on Friday that a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, Russia, and the US could take place soon.

Zelensky also said he had asked Trump to raise the war during his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is visiting the US on a state visit.
