❗️Eight US sailors in USS Abraham Lincoln strike group attempted suicide during Iran deployment

Eight US Navy personnel assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group attempted suicide during its extended deployment, according to a letter from Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

The letter said the figure covers sailors across the carrier, air wing, destroyer squadron, escorting destroyers and embarked aviation squadrons, with no deaths by suicide recorded during the deployment.

The deployment lasted roughly 10 months and included combat operations against Iran, with the carrier spending 286 days at sea. Cao also confirmed that one sailor attempted to go overboard in March and was stopped by shipmates, while another went overboard in August and was quickly recovered and treated.

The disclosure comes after months of reports about low morale and difficult conditions aboard the carrier. The Navy has previously said it had not observed an increase in suicidal ideation or attempts aboard the ship, while a Navy official told ABC News the number of attempts was not outside the norm for a deployment of this length.
