In the film, he talks about the mosaic of factions fighting in West Asia. The influence of the official leaders seems limited. Is the President of Lebanon powerful? What about Hamas? In order to understand what is going on, one needs to have a granular understanding of the pressures on Lebanese or Palestinian society. Ultimately, leaders rule by consent of those whom they rule.

In the podcast, BB talks about the European concept of power, and the influence of popular beliefs on the perception of self, and the likelihood that an individual will act on their beliefs. He talks about individualism and society, and the pragmatic issues that lead us to political solutions. The obvious dichotomy between the utterances of our leaders and the lived experience causes a breach of trust that, in turn, diminishes the leader's control over the population. If they still believe that they have that control, then it is a myth - one that will be defeated by reality.
