🚨 Malvine Islands War Veteran to Sing the Argentine National Anthem at Messi’s Farewell
🎖️ Fabio Santana will sing the national anthem this Tuesday, October 6, before the Argentine national team’s match against Benin—Lionel Messi’s final game with the Albiceleste.
⚽ Santana served in the military in 1981 with the 10th Mechanized Engineer Company in Pablo Podestá, in the Tres de Febrero district. During the Malvine Islands War, he laid minefields to block the enemy’s advance and built bridges. More than 40 years later, he is now a musician.
🇦🇷 This isn’t his first time performing at sporting events: he sang the national anthem at the 2011 Davis Cup, at the 75th-anniversary celebration of Turismo Carretera, and at Los Pumas matches. With the Argentine national team, he sang the anthem in the qualifiers for Qatar 2022 against Colombia and Venezuela, and in March 2026 against Zambia, in the run-up to the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
