🚨 Bolivia: Peasant leader Nelson Virreyra, a key figure in the "Evista" faction, has been detained.
🇧🇴 The executive of the Unified Trade Union Federation of Peasant Workers was detained this Tuesday and taken to the Special Force to Fight Crime (FELCC) while en route to a meeting of social organizations to coordinate protests against the Rodrigo Paz administration.
🗣 Virreyra denounced "political persecution" and noted that the mobilizations were a response to food and fuel shortages as well as official economic policies—including the elimination of the diesel subsidy—demands that the Executive branch failed to address.
⚠️ The leader had spearheaded road blockades that lasted over 50 days in June, had announced new protest actions starting October 13, and had criticized the Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the departure of Attorney General Roger Mariaca and the stalling of investigations into the Cerimedo case.
