🇵🇾Paraguay: Teachers Protest in Asunción and Denounce Police Blockade Amid Education Crisis

🚨 Educators from the Organization of Education Workers (OTEP-SN) marched to the Ministry of Education in Asunción to demand solutions to the precarious conditions in the sector. Security forces blocked the march’s progress and prevented participants from entering the government building, closing the door to dialogue.

📑The unions denounce a suffocating bureaucratic burden and budget cuts that force teachers to pay for materials and infrastructure out of their own pockets, taking away valuable time from in-person instruction.

🧠They also rejected the authorities’ attempts to blame teachers for poor results on the PISA assessments, arguing that administrative overload, a lack of specialists, and the threat of disciplinary proceedings make it impossible to guarantee a high-quality education system.
