🇺🇸🇸🇦⚡️ — A U.S. military judge has excluded the 2007 confessions of Mustafa al-Hawsawi, accused of helping the 9/11 hijackers, dealing another setback to prosecutors ahead of the planned June 2028 trial, NYT reports.
The judge ruled that Hawsawi’s statements to federal agents at Guantánamo were not voluntary because he was questioned in a former CIA black site while shackled, without being told of his right to remain silent, his right to counsel or that earlier coerced statements could not be used against him.
Judges have now excluded the confessions of three of the four defendants in the joint death-penalty case, including 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. A decision on the fourth defendant, Walid bin Attash, remains pending.
